Tuesday, June 29, 2010
Halifax, Nova Scotia

Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh continue to highlight the role of the Canadian Forces by celebrating the Canadian Naval Centennial – 100 years of proud service by the Canadian Navy. This day of celebration begins with The Duke of Edinburgh presenting a certificate from the World Ship Trust to HMCS Haida – Canada’s most famous warship.

The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh later attend a luncheon and meet serving military, veterans, and cadets and participate in the International Fleet Review. It is a huge honour for the Navy to have Her Majesty The Queen, as Reviewing Officer, highlight the Canadian naval contribution to world security as warships from around the globe have gathered to honour the Canadian Navy’s distinguished record of service over the last century.

Later in the day, The Duke of Edinburgh has a private reception with members of the 2nd Battalion, Royal Canadian Regiment. As Colonel-in-Chief of this Regiment, The Duke of Edinburgh honours its continuing contributions.

The day ends with A Celebration of Nova Scotia reception at which The Queen and
The Duke of Edinburgh meet Nova Scotians who have made significant contributions to their communities, province and country.
